At the top are <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/sep/16/revealed-the-uk-towns-with-the-fewest-jobs-for-young-people">affluent towns</a> in southern England that account for nine in 10 of the areas with the highest numbers of vacancies. At the bottom are places such as Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire, where young people might once have followed their parents into manufacturing and industry.
